Incest support centres

The incest support centre provides free, confidential services to victims of—or those with questions about—sexual abuse or incest.

Description

You can contact an incest support centre directly. They are under the obligation of confidentiality and their services are free. The incest support centre provides services to adults and youth who have been victims of incest or sexual abuse as children. Guardians and partners of victims can also contact the incest support centre. The incest support centre is also engaged in preventive initiatives that provide education and information.

The service offering at the incest support centre includes:

  • One-on-one counselling
  • Training in building relationships with other people
  • Self-help groups where participants discuss their emotions with others in the group. In the process, the participants help each other—to break deeply ingrained patterns of behaviour and to take responsibility for their own lives.

Target group

  • People who have been victims of incest or sexual abuse
  • Parents and relatives of children who are victims of abuse

Cooperating authorities

State and municipal grants are provided to fund the operation of the incest support centre. The incest support centre is not part of the municipality’s ordinary activities, but the municipality does apply for government grants and approve the incest support centre’s budget.
